A brief introduction to informed consent

Many Massachusetts physicians and other medical professionals strive to always educate their patients about their own medical conditions and treatments in order to promote awareness and empowerment. Others, however, fail to properly inform patients about the potential risks and side effects associated with particular treatments and/or procedures. Not only can a lack of informed consent compromise patient health and safety but it can also be cause for serious medical malpractice claims in some cases.

Can sepsis be considered a medical mistake?

Given that the purpose of medical facilities and professional medical care is to treat a huge range of injuries and conditions, you might assume that patients leave the hospital better off than when they came in. Unfortunately, though, that is not always the case. A large number of people who are admitted to the hospital for medical treatment and/or surgery develop serious infections and related complications every year. In fact, the actual number of medical patients who develop septicemia may be much higher than reported figures suggest.

The signs and causes of hydrocephalus in infants

People can be affected by brain injuries at any age; however, it is often the very young who are especially vulnerable to sustaining serious and potentially fatal brain injuries. That is why it is the responsibility of physicians and other medical professionals to accurately identify the risks, causes and symptoms of pediatric brain injuries. Too often, however, preventable brain injuries are improperly diagnosed and/or treated in young children, resulting in permanent disability. The attorneys at Donovan & O’Connor, L.L.P., are committed to advocating on behalf of pediatric brain injury victims and their families.

Could Bed rest be bad for me?

It is not uncommon to hear about a woman being prescribed bed rest during a difficult pregnancy. In fact, it may be the recommended course of action over prescribing other treatments for pregnancy-related complications in some cases. Unfortunately, however, there is more evidence supporting the dangers of bed rest than proof of its benefits.
