Proud To Provide Over A Century Of Service
Biography
In May 2017, we were saddened to lose our friend and colleague, John ("Jack") Curtin. Jack, a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and the University of Iowa Law School, joined the firm, then known as Donovan & O'Connor, in 1962 and worked here for his entire career. He was known throughout the state as a pillar of the local real estate bar. Jack was dedicated to his clients and the practice of law. His contribution to the growth and success of the firm during his 50 years of practice cannot be overstated.
Jack took special pride in mentoring new attorneys at the firm. He was a great lawyer and a man of the highest integrity. Jack had a special affinity for working with the elderly and the infirm. Jack's practice of traveling to meet with clients, whether at home, in the hospital, or in a nursing home to attend to their needs , came to be known as "wills on wheels" by the attorneys and staff members who went with him to witness the document signings.
Jack believed that a good lawyer must be prepared, be punctual, and be responsive to his clients. Jack transitioned to an of counsel role at the firm in 1994, but retained his license to practice law until 2014 and was often spotted in the office in his trademark plaid pants. Jack was active in his church, was the official keeper of the office history, and was renowned for his sense of humor. His presence at the office is missed but his legacy is still alive and thriving here.
