Giving birth can be a nerve-racking experience even without incident. However, there are some unfortunate cases in which negligence on the part of your doctor may result in injury for your child. This may be rare, but is still unfortunately a possibility.

There are a number of injuries that your child may suffer from that could cause temporary or life-long problems if unaddressed. Some of these injuries could come from issues starting in the womb. This includes cerebral palsy or Erb’s palsy. Kernicterus  or brachial plexus injury are other reasons for concern.

Other injuries may be incurred during childbirth itself. If you had a high-risk delivery, it ups the chances of your baby being injured. Issues like oxygen deprivation can occur both in the womb and after birth. If it is not caught quickly, it can result in brain damage or more.

The delivery team or your treating physician may be liable for any damage that your child suffered from. Medical malpractice may be filed for if they can be proven accountable for injuring your child. This includes injuries that can eventually be recovered from. Even more mild injuries can come with a heavy medical tab. You may need some financial support in order to ensure that your child is able to get the attention they need to heal their injury.
