DONALD GOODRICH RECEIVES MASSACHUSETTS BAR ASSOCIATION COMMUNITY
SERVICE AWARD
Donald W. Goodrich received the Massachusetts Bar Association (“MBA”)
Community Service Award for 2007 at the Berkshire Bar Association’s annual
Winter Ball at the Cranwell Resort in Lenox, Massachusetts, on January 12,
2008. MBA President David W. White, Jr., presented the award to Don for
his work on behalf of the Peter M. Goodrich Memorial Foundation, which Don
and his wife, Sally, founded to promote reconstruction in and student
exchange programs with Afghanistan following the tragic events of
September 11, 2001.
A native of Syracuse, New York, Don attended Middlebury College before
receiving his bachelor’s degree from the University of Vermont and his
juris doctorate from Boston College Law School and was admitted to the
Massachusetts Bar in 1970. A member of Donovan & O’Connor since 1970 and
a partner since 1973, Don is currently admitted to practice in all federal
and state courts in both Massachusetts and Vermont. Primarily engaged in
the practice of civil litigation, he splits his time between our offices
in North Adams and Bennington.
JAMES LOUGHMAN JOINS THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE SUSAN B. ANTHONY
BIRTHPLACE MUSEUM
This past fall, James R. Loughman became a founding member of the Board of
Directors of the newly formed Susan B. Anthony Birthplace Museum in Adams,
Massachusetts.
The Museum is a non-profit organization devoted to preserving the
birthplace and educating the public about the legacy of that great social
reformer, Susan B. Anthony, who was a pioneering feminist and suffragist
as well as a noteworthy figure in the abolitionist, pro-life and
temperance movements of the 19th century. Following
renovations of the birthplace (located at 67 East Road in Adams), which
are currently ongoing, the Museum is scheduled to open to the public in
February of 2009.
BRIGID HENNESSEY JOINS THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF MATRIMONIAL LAWYERS MANAGING BOARD
This past May, Brigid Hennessey was unanimously nominated to the Board of
Managers of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.
Founded in 1962, the Academy consists of approximately 1,600 family law
practitioners throughout all 50 states who are generally recognized by
judges and their fellow lawyers as preeminent in their field.
SETTLEMENTS AND VERDICTS
Chris Dodig negotiated settlements exceeding two million dollars in the
first half of 2008. The settlements included a medical malpractice death
claim, a motor vehicle accident death claim and a motor vehicle/pedestrian
accident claim on behalf of a Vermont resident.
Michael Palmieri represented injured motorcyclists in two separate cases and
succeeded in settling both of them for the policy limits of $100,000 each.
Donald Goodrich and Michael Hinkley secured settlements totaling $957,500,
reflecting payments and interest owed to a Vermont manufacturer in
connection with a bridge replacement project in Waltham, Massachusetts.
Michael Hinkley obtained a verdict in favor of a Massachusetts developer
charged with a zoning violation by a Western Massachusetts municipality.
Following trial, the court reversed a preliminary injunction previously
issued against the developer, entered judgment in his favor and dismissed
the case.
Chris Dodig and Michael Hinkley obtained a jury verdict in favor of four
Connecticut women injured in a motor vehicle crash in Florida,
Massachusetts. Following trial, the jury found the defendant driver
negligent and awarded the plaintiffs $43,076, a figure in excess of
available insurance.
Chris Dodig and Michael Hinkley obtained a $68,000 settlement on behalf of a
woman who suffered a broken wrist and other injuries as a result of a fall
on an icy stairway.
Stephen Pagnotta and Michael Hinkley recently obtained verdicts of not
guilty on behalf of a Vermont man charged with four counts of vehicular
homicide and negligent operation following a tragic 2006 motor vehicle
accident on the Massachusetts Turnpike. Following trial, the court found
that the man was not at fault for the accident and entered not guilty
findings on all counts.
