Many lab tests in the U.S. faulty or inaccurate

The failure to accurately diagnose a serious medical condition might be one of the most frightening and devastating situations for Massachusetts residents. At Donovan & O'Connor, LLP, we understand the implications of a wrong or delayed diagnosis, as well as other problems you can face from a medical error. Laboratory tests are one of the most common ways to screen a patient for potential illnesses. You should have every reason to trust that these tests are accurate and performed properly.

Mother injured as a result of obstetrical violence

There is a term that has been getting attention lately in the medical and legal fields, although for most residents of Massachusetts and elsewhere, it's still an unfamiliar term. "Obstetrical violence" is what some use to describe incidents of bullying or intimidation, forced C-sections or episiotomies or other unpleasant or traumatizing actions committed against mothers by medical staff in the labor room. Some of these actions may lead to the mother or infant sustaining birth injuries.

Unwanted pregnancies prompt lawsuit against pill manufacturer

Many pregnancy-related medical errors negatively affect the unborn child or the mother during pregnancy or delivery. However, mistakes regarding women’s health and pregnancy can also occur when a pregnancy isn’t planned. In a recent case, a lawsuit involving 113 women in 28 states was filed after the women alleged a defective batch of birth control pills led to their pregnancies. In a large lawsuit such as this one, it is possible that Massachusetts residents were also affected, even if they did not take part in the lawsuit.

How can umbilical cord mishaps increase risk of infant harm?

Like most expectant parents in Massachusetts, you are probably just as anxious as you are about the impending birth of your baby as you are excited. What if something goes wrong? Fortunately, many of today’s tests can detect an abnormality before the baby is born, giving infants with potential birth defects a better chance. However, some complications don’t often show up until labor and delivery, when swift action is vital and one mistake can end in a tragedy.
